Energy Resource

The source of power you own, i.e. the Solar Panels.

Inverter

Solar panels generate Direct Current (DC) power, while home appliances use Alternating Current power. An inverter converts that DC power to AC power that's utilized in the home. It also provides limited protections to operating conditions.

Electric Meter

Smart meters are installed after going solar. It measures how much energy you use when your panels aren't generating enough power to support your needs. It will also measure the surplus energy your solar panels send back to the grid when they produce more than you use.

AC Disconnect Switch

This is the process of how using solar energy works for customers

The disconnect safely isolates your equipment from the grid. This must be accessible and lockable by your REP's (retail energy provider) crew at all times.

Breaker Box

Allows you to shut off your power to different sections of your home (or your entire home if you want to).

  • Will I still get an electric bill?
Yes. Keep in mind your home will still rely be connected to the utility grid utilizing net metering. Being connected will allow the flow of power at night, and to add surplus energy back into the grid during the day. Therefore the bill will keep track of all these events. If there is adequate roof space to custom fit the home for a 100% offset solar system; homeowners will have negative bills showing the credits you've produced!
  • How much will I be paid for the power I generate?
It depends on where you are located. Even for the homeowners here in Texas being that ERCOT is deregulated there may not be an option to get a great net metering program and rebates. For those connected to Oncor, we find the best net metering buy-back programs available. Overall, the "payments" received by transitioning to solar will be made immediately via the savings by going solar.
  • Will I have power during an outage?
Having a grid-tied solar-pv system will not allow you to have power during an outage due to safety precautious. UNLESS, your system is built for backup power generation. This will allow for your home to operate independent of the grid. Having a battery paired with your solar is a great way to do so. Also, for a full off-the-grid system it's best to couple the solar with both a generator and battery. These are all options when building your custom system.
  • What happens if they are damaged?
In the event that the system were to take damage rest assured. All products are placed with a 25 year warranty. There are also additional insurances offered to extend that time since the solar will be producing long after the 25 year mark.
